As the second release of blue-very label's brunch stuff "série d'essai", we will be releasing the second album by Cycling In Marmalade, a genuine neo-acoustic band active in Tokyo.
Cycling In Marmalade is a 5 piece band led by Mr.watashi. While actively working at live houses in Tokyo, he released sound sources through distribution. This is the second album from the self-produced first album exactly one year ago. Initially, watashi started his activities alone, but due to recruitment of members, it became the current formation. For future works, it seems that he will talk with the members and brainstorm ideas to create music as a band, but for the previous work and up to this one, he has been writing, composing, and arranging the songs by himself.
Unlike the last time, this time the whole album is finished with a concept. The story is like reading a book, and the production, which brings about changes with each song centered on neo-acoustic, has a witty sense (in a good way) that makes you wonder if he's in his mid-twenties. It is a tailoring that begins with “prologue" and ends with “epilogue", which seems to be a concept.
“孤独’’ has the highest expectations due to the guitar sound in the intro, “彼’’ is nothing but a good song, “殻’’ has a strong 80s neo-acoustic feel, “花束’’ was released as a pre-released single, and “君’’. It has a taste that can be described as elegant neo-acoustic, and the spicy sax in the middle is influenced by Miracle Mile (Bless This Ship), which was cited as one of his best songs, and, for example, Somewhere Over England. Also, the person who notices the guitar is a considerable obscure maniac? “夜空”. ”夢”, which is sung with a gentle piano, and “未来’’, where you can fully enjoy the charm of vocalist Watashi, who fully demonstrates the power of singing, are also good.
By the way, there are three bonus tracks that cannot be heard on the CD-only distribution. This is wonderful, and don't underestimate the "Music for Us" with a sunny texture and handclaps like Call On Me, the tearful melody and delicious arpeggios of "November's High" and the "Escape" bonuses. It's a great explosion of sense without cutting any corners!!
In order to differentiate it from the distribution, we asked Kenichiro Kozono (Small Garden Studio) to do the mastering. According to his will, the artwork is his own. I hope that neo-acoustic enthusiasts with discerning ears will take this opportunity to listen to the new star of the neo-acoustic world (is there such a thing?).
